About Us

How JIYU began

JIYU was born in the creative setting of the Hammersmith Flyover. Stuck in traffic, we (that's Ben and Pete) discussed what we wanted to do in the future. During that 40-minute slow crawl, the idea of JIYU was sketched out. We would build our own company, with a focus on delivery and working in an enjoyable environment.

The name took a little longer.

After a few years working from Ben’s garage, we moved into offices in Swindon.

The rest, as they say, is history.

The JIYU way

We have worked in IT recruitment for over 25 years, and IT recruitment is all we do.

We formed JIYU because that’s what we wanted to do with our own lives, and because we love helping other people with their tech careers.

Why ‘JIYU’?

Say it how you like, but it comes from the Japanese jiyuu, meaning freedom.

Pete’s granddad was a POW and Ben’s was one of the first medics to go into the camps in Japan.

No matter how tricky setting up JIYU would be, it wouldn’t compare to their incredible challenges. It’s good to have heroes!
